Aug 10, 2012

KATHMANDU, AUG 10 - Maruti Suzuki’s lifestyle vehicle Ertiga is all set to hit Nepali roads after creating a buzz in the Indian market. Arun Intercontinental, a subsidiary of the Chaudhary Group and the sole authorised distributor of Maruti Suzuki in Nepal, is planning to unveil the car by November-end.

“We are quite excited to introduce the Ertiga in Nepal. The entry of this new vehicle not only means the addition of one more car from Maruti Suzuki’s stable but the entry of the brand in the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) segment,” said Uttam Gupta, senior sales manager at Arun Intercontinental. According to him, the company has been selling only economy MUVs so far. “This new car will mark our entry into the premium MUV segment.”

Arun Intercontinental has stated that the car will be targeted at lifestyle vehicle enthusiasts and the hospitality sector and airports. The company believes that the Ertiga will give stiff competition to the Toyota Inova. The Ertiga from Maruti Suzuki is powered by a 1.4 l 1,372 cc K series petrol engine. It can deliver a maximum power output of 95 ps at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 130 nm at 4,000 rpm. The front wheel drive machine’s engine is mated with a five-speed manual transmission system.

The powerful engine can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 15 seconds. The car has a top speed of 155 kmph. According to an ARAI test, the vehicle delivers a mileage of 15 kmpl in the city and 18 kmpl on the highway. Regarding safety features, the Ertiga is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution (EBD) and brake assist facility that allows the car to get the right balance between the rear and front axles.

Other safety features include dual SRS airbags, engine immobilizer and high tensile roofs along with a central locking system. The Ertiga has front disc and rear drum braking system. The music system consists of an integrated music system with steering mounted music controls, roof mounted air blower to keep second and third-row passengers cool, air conditioner, power steering and power windows, among others. The MUV has seven seats. Arun Intercontinental has stated that the petrol car will be priced between Rs 3-3.5 million.

Likewise, the diesel car will cost around Rs 3.8 million. “As the Ertiga is expensive compared to our other cars, we will be focusing on the petrol version initially,” Gupta said. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was first unveiled at the Auto Expo held in New Delhi in 2010 as the Maruti R3 concept. However, the global première of the car was held at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo.

The car made its global debut on April 12, 2012.
